MC Buck: Over a decade of burning passion for dance

artLIVE – In Vietnam’s professional Hip Hop and dance community, MC Buck is a name synonymous with versatility and resilience. From a seventh-grader captivated by dance moves on MTV, Buck has built a monumental career spanning over a decade.

A Journey of More Than Ten Years 

Starting his career in 2009, MC Buck joined the group X-Clown, quickly achieving early success and making waves across Southeast Asia. After six years dedicated to street Hip Hop, he decided to expand his artistic capabilities by joining UDG Vietnam.

This became a pivotal milestone, allowing him to approach and develop techniques in various genres such as Jazz, Contemporary, and Latin. The fusion of street spirit and academic discipline has created a unique and multi-colored style for MC Buck.

Impressive Competitive Record Buck’s competitive history is a bright spot in his career. He reached the Top 20 of “So You Think You Can Dance” Season 3, Top 4 of “Vu Dieu Xanh VTV3” and Top 24 of “Street Dance Vietnam 2022”. He also represented Vietnam in international arenas like Lion City (Top 8) and Show Off Vol 6 (Runner-up).

In team competitions, Buck continued to assert his form by winning a series of awards with his crew: National Champion of “Be U with Honda” 2015, “Urban Jam Hue” 2016 and notably 3rd Place in Asia at Astro BattleRound Malaysia 2016 after two consecutive years winning the Vietnam round.

From the Stage to Behind the Scenes Beyond his role as a dancer, MC Buck is also the “wizard” behind many famous TV performances. Since 2015, he has choreographed for numerous shows like The Remix, Dance Your Fat Off (Bước nhảy ngàn cân), Thank God You’re Here (Ơn giời cậu đây rồi), Little Giants (Người hùng tí hon) and Your Face Sounds Familiar (Gương mặt thân quen). Recently, he served as choreographer for Team Phao (North Side) at The Heroes 2022 and co-choreographed the “Vu Khuc Anh Sang” Countdown 2021 performance on VTV3.

MC Buck’s reputation has skyrocketed, reaching new heights of popularity through his involvement in recent blockbuster reality TV shows. In the arena of Anh Trai Vượt Ngàn Chông Gai, the performances he staged not only achieved massive viral success on social media but also deeply resonated with audiences emotionally.

Furthermore, he continued to assert his expertise in Tân Binh Toàn Năng by simultaneously undertaking three pivotal roles: Judge, Coach, and Choreographer, playing a direct role in shaping the artistic style of the next generation of performers. MC Buck’s prestige and caliber were further solidified as he became the “go-to” choreographer for top-tier V-Biz artists, including (S)TRONG Trong Hieu, Quoc Thien, Rhymastic, Binz and Kay Tran.

Alongside his choreography work, Buck’s professional authority is strongly reaffirmed through his role as a judge. He has served as a trusted international judge at major competitions such as the UDO Asia Pacific Street Dance Championships 2023 (Thailand), The Phaze International 2021 (Malaysia) and Aeon Do Dance Mall Carnival 2017. Notably, he left a significant mark as the Judge for the fiery dance battle segment in the debut season of Anh Trai ‘Say Hi’ (ATSH). Additionally, with his charm and professionalism, he has hosted numerous major events as an MC, including Battle of the Year (2013–2014), R16 (2015) and Prisma Run.

A Pillar of the Community In addition to performing and choreographing, MC Buck is the force behind many important Street Dance events in Vietnam. He participated in organizing and operating the qualifiers for major world tournaments, such as Battle of the Year (2013–2014) – the world’s most prestigious B-Boy tournament held in Vietnam – and the South Asia Regional Finals in Da Nang (Battle of the Year South Asia 2014) as well as R16 2015, a top-tier B-Boy tournament from South Korea. These events not only affirm his expertise but also demonstrate his role in connecting the community and bringing international tournaments closer to Vietnamese dancers.

Inspiring the next generation currently, he runs his own studio and dedicates most of his time to training the younger generation. He continues to ignite passion and pass on techniques to new dancers while maintaining a burning ambition: to stand on international stages again and contribute to truly complete artistic productions.
