artLIVE – On July 11, 2025, the IDECAF stage will welcome the return of French pianist and conductor David Greilsammer in a special solo performance titled ‘Tiên nữ, giấc mộng và điệu vũ’.
David Greilsammer – A guide through classical sounds
David Greilsammer is known as one of the most creative and forward-thinking pianists and conductors in classical music today. His latest solo album, Labyrinth, has won many awards and was praised by the media as “groundbreaking,” “brave,” and “stunning.” His other recordings have also been honored by well-known newspapers like The New York Times, The Boston Globe and The Sunday Times.
He has performed as a soloist and conductor with many famous orchestras, such as the BBC Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Symphoniker Hamburg, RAI National Symphony Orchestra (Italy) and China National Symphony Orchestra, …
Since 2013, David Greilsammer has been the Music and Artistic Director of the Geneva Camerata (GECA) – one of the most diverse and creative orchestras in the world.
In 2022, he reached a new milestone when he was appointed Principal Conductor and Music Director of Philharmonie Medellín in Colombia – a leading orchestra in Latin America. That same year, he won a Grammy Award and the Classical: NEXT Innovation Award for creative projects in classical music.
After a successful tour in Vietnam in 2024 organized by the French Institute, David Greilsammer now returns with a special piano solo performance: ‘Tiên nữ, giấc mộng và điệu vũ’.
A circle of sound, flowing gently through the piano keys
The concert opens with the first part of ‘Davidsbündlertänze’ by Robert Schumann – a set of romantic and emotional dances, expressing his deep love for his fiancée.
Next is ‘Les fées sont d’exquises danseuses’ (The Fairies Are Wonderful Dancers) by Claude Debussy, where every note takes the audience into a dreamy, floating world.
Also included is ‘Prelude No. 1 by George Gershwin’ – full of strong, lively rhythms that reflect the fast-paced energy of modern city life. Then comes Courante in D minor by Henry Purcell, a fast and elegant dance from the English Baroque period, bringing listeners back to the rich atmosphere of 18th-century royal halls.
Following that is the charming ‘Forlane from Le Tombeau de Couperin’ by Maurice Ravel – a piece that shines with classic French style, both graceful and beautiful.
A special highlight of the night will be the world premiere of a new piece written just for David Greilsammer by young British composer Georgie Ward. This exciting new work creates a bold and free musical landscape, blending modern ideas with classical sounds.
The concert continues with Ravel’s grand ‘Rigaudon’, then moves into the timeless beauty of ‘Hornpipe in D minor’ by Purcell – a joyful Baroque folk dance. Audiences will also enjoy the swing and jazz style of Gershwin once more, before ending the night with the soft and elegant ‘Dancers of Delphi’ by Claude Debussy.
Always searching for new musical feelings, David Greilsammer creates a circle of sound where every piece, every moment becomes a dance, a dream, a beautiful journey. This special concert promises to take the audience into a magical musical world.
The solo piano concert ‘Tiên nữ, giấc mộng và điệu vũ’ will take place at 8:00 PM on July 11, 2025, at IDECAF, 28 Le Thanh Ton, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
